April 6 -8 Mildura

Monday was another day on the road. Crossed the Hay Plains – miles of nothingness, which the kids took very little note of as they seemed to have fallen into “long boring car trip” stupor. Passed through Fruit Fly zone and had to get rid of our fruit. Unfortunatly we had just done a shop so had a bit to get rid of. I am sure we aren't the first people to be caught out! Happy to finally arrive at Mildura and put our feet up for a few days.
Tuesday 7 April – Mildura
Spent the day doing some of the kid highlights of Mildura. Kicked off with a visit to the Gem Workshop where we watched someone turning what looked like very unimpressive rock into shiny gems. Tim, Nick and Sammy spent half an hour trying to get out of the maze that was set up behind the workshop. I thought they would never get out! From what I understand, a bit of cheating was required to finally get out. It was a real highlight for the kids. In the afternoon we went down to the lock and watch the paddle steamer come through. It was great to watch the lock in action.

Wednesday 8 April – Mildura
Went to Stefano’s café in the morning (thanks for the recommendation Judy) and had a lovely breakfast. After breakfast, Tim decided to bunker down at the library and get some work done so I took the kids to the pool for a swim. After which we joined Tim at the library and the kids got some school work done.
Spent the afternoon at the campsite trying out the camp oven to make damper. Let’s just say it was lucky the campsite had an oven we could use. Never mind we’ll try again soon. Baby steps
