Sunday 12 April - Easter Sunday Ceduna

Woke in the early morning darkness to the sound of someone shuffling around our campsite. Tim leapt out of his sleeping bag “Someone is stealing our water container!” Tim scarpered out of the tent in his undies chasing after the thief. He was back in the tent in less than a minute. “It was the Easter Bunny. I feel like a twit.” The moral of the story, when you hear creeping around your tent in the wee hours, don’t always assume it is a thief. It could be the Easter Bunny.
Children woke to find family blocks of chocolate on the ends of their sleeping bags (note to future travellers, don’t expect to find Easter chocolate in Ceduna the day before Easter) and Easter eggs outside their tent (courtesy of the Camp Easter Bunny). All stocked up for an 8 hour car ride.
So finally we are off across the Nullarbor. Wave ratio 4:5. Drove most of the day and pulled up at a rest stop about half way between Ceduna and Norseman. The scenery was surprising lush. Maybe lush is a bit too strong of a word. Certainly very green, a lot greener than western NSW. As far as the eye could see there were plains of low lying scrub. We stopped at the Nullabor Roadhouse to have morning tea and were quickly surrounded by a group of dingos eyeing off the cookies that the kids were eating. We didn’t hang round for long. Crossed the SA/WA border in the early afternoon where yet another confiscation of fruit and vegetables was carried out. Luckily we knew this would happen so had already gotten trhough all our fresh fruits and veg. Carried on our travels until we found a rest area to spend the night. Found a nice shady spot, got a roaring fire going and enjoyed the evening eating damper (cooked in the camp oven- success at last!) and staring at the squillion of stars above.
