Saturday 4 April - Wollondilly and Wombeyan Caves

The next morning we cooked up bacon and eggs over the fire on the Hillbilly BBQ plate. It was quickly voted best camping accessory, closely followed by Mark’s welder’s gloves that we borrowed. The morning was spent lazing around, and the kids had a swim in the river.
After lunch, we thought we would take a leisurely drive to Wombeyan Caves. Although it was only 15km away, it was a nerve racking drive along a primarily single lane dirt road with serious drop offs. Sue spent most of the drive with her eyes closed, gripping the seat and hoping we wouldn’t meet any on coming traffic. Wombeyan Caves was worth the visit. We went on a self guided tour of Fig Tree Cave. Twenty minutes after entering the cave we were all disappointed the cave ended. Piled back into the car for the daunting trip back to camp and a splitting head ache for Sue. Work stress replaced by scary car trip stress. This is the reason we are both unlikely to become full on 4WD enthusiasts!
